What in NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to support eligible people with permanent and significant disability, their families and their careers.

The NDIS provides funding for individual supports and services deemed to be reasonable and necessary for people with a disability to achieve their goals and aspirations. Individuals who are eligible for the NDIS will receive funding on an annual basis to fund the supports, services, aids and equipment they require. Supports may help participants achieve goals in many aspects of their life, including independence, involvement in their community, education, employment and health and wellbeing. The NDIS is about empowering people to choose how, when and where they receive the supports and services they need.

The NDIS will help people with disability achieve their goals. This may include greater independence, community involvement, employment and improved wellbeing. As an insurance scheme, the NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability to improve their outcomes later in life. The NDIS also provides people with disability, their family and carers with information and referrals to existing support services in the community.
